Loving mother and wife Tammy Lye-James is one of our fundraising champions who is living her life to the full, surrounded by her family and friends, thanks to the dedicated care, quick response and outstanding team-work of the tireless medical staff at the PA Hospital. Tammy is a breast cancer survivor.
When Tammy received the news that nobody wants to hear, "I am sorry Tammy, but you have breast cancer", all she could think of were her two beautiful boys, her husband and her family. After her mastectomy, Tammy thought often of her Mum who had battled an aggressive form of cancer and sadly passed away. Tammy said that she could hear her Mum in her head saying "Come on girly, you can do it—just get up and get on with it".
Tammy still requires regular check-ups, but cherishes every moment spent with her family and friends which is largely thanks to the results of years of research supported by people like you. Speaking about her experience, Tammy says: "I am only here today with my beautiful boys and husband because of the PA's world-class doctors and staff; there is no way to fully express what their care means to me, but I hope in a small way by sharing my story that I can inspire people to help others like me.
"The funds we raise through Project Pink will go towards vital cancer research; research that I may need in the future… my children, my husband, my family, my friends, or anyone. Cancer does not discriminate and age is no barrier."Community fundraising plays a crucial role in the lives of people like Tammy and her family. Participating in Project Pink will help us collectively continue to raise the urgent funds needed to achieve better research outcomes, helping breast cancer patients to lead a better quality of life.
Project Pink is a fantastic way to bring people together to help champion the cause, flying the flag for breast cancer research to help give hope and support to patients and their families living with breast cancer.
